Travis Perkins PLC is a leading partner in the construction industry across the UK and Europe. With 3000 vehicles and 2000 operator licence sites TP has a significant fleet, and with that comes various challenges in relation to managing compliance and checks.
Challenges: Problems managing compliance
- Paper chasing- estimated 1.2 million pieces of paper were used within the network to show compliance records over the legally required 16 months.
- Having various systems and multiple usernames and passwords for fleet managers and drivers to manage compliance and support.
- Manual tasks leaving the network to be reactive when it came to managing compliance and in decision-making.
Solutions: Having a consolidated system results in proactive maintenance
Tranzaura merged the two systems of first use checks and tachograph analysis into one consolidated system, removing the two main obstacles Travis Perkins faced, using paper and multiple platforms. Moving to digital resulted in a chain reaction when it came to results and benefits. Those being:
- Centralised Data Repository – allowing for greater analysis and insights. This resulted in the production of dashboards and a greater understanding of the data presented. This meant the fleet became more informed and efficient in areas such as legal compliance, training and support.
- Proactive Management – real time insights facilitated more information at people’s fingertips. This meant that trends emerged and could respond to operational issues quickly and optimise the utilisation of vehicles.
- Efficient Workflow – having a for drivers and managers removed the need for branch visits, allowed for audit trails, resulting in a better use of time and overall efficiency, as everyone was singing from the same sheet with checks and compliance.
Digitising their fleet has allowed Travis Perkins to progress significantly in their reporting and an unintentional consequence has been enhanced safety. The data and intelligence they receive from their reports has resulted in the drivers and public being safer, as drivers are fully informed and trained, while vehicles are up to DVSA standard.
Jon Lowe of Travis Perkins has called the move to digital ‘enriching’ and has lauded the improved visibility and decision-making in the company since collaborating with Tranzaura.
